Meet The Gay Behind ElevateGray

I’m Kyle Patrick,

I grew up a gay country boy raising pigs, barrel racing, and singing old country songs to drunk people from the top of a bar stool when I was seven.

Then life moved me to South Phoenix, where being gay with white skin meant I could sometimes move through the world with one kind of privilege while still learning very quickly how to fit in, keep secrets, and survive.

At the same time, much of my childhood was spentĀ en la casa de mi tĆa,Ā surrounded by the love, language, food, rhythm, and safety of her family.Ā  My cultural identity has never fit neatly into one box, and honestly, neither has the rest of me.

I survived abuse in more forms than I care to count. Drugs and alcohol became coping tools. They worked, until they didn’t. Multiple DUIs, jail, and eventually prison forced my life in a different direction.

Recovery did not magically put me back together. That took years. A decade of therapy. A lot of uncomfortable truth. And countless gay men, young and old, who loved me before I really knew how to love myself.

Along the way, I earned a B.S. in Family & Human Development from Arizona State University, a Master of Public Administration, and a Master of Social Work from Arizona State University. Today, I’m a therapist and the owner of a multi-state psychotherapy group practice.

But life has never been only about work.

I’ve traveled the world and lived in Mexico, Central America, and South America. Spanish came naturally through my upbringing. Italian was different. I took it on as a personal challenge two years ago and, apparently, youĀ canĀ teach an old dog new tricks. I also speak a little French, and I’m still building on it.

We age. We grow. We become.

I’m married to a sexy Latino man who enjoys his privacy so you will probably only see glimpses of him.Ā  We share life with Morocco, our dog and the undisputed center of my universe. These days, you’ll usually find us somewhere in the Midwest playing pickleball, wandering Costco, going fishing, traveling when we can, or just sitting on the porch at sunset.

At ElevateGray, though, I’m not here to be your therapist--thats my day job.Ā

Here, I’m just another gay man over 30 who has lived some life, learned some things, gotten plenty wrong, and wants to share what I’ve picked up along the way with the community that helped me become myself.
